Landa Labs

Big Things from Small Particles

Founded in 2003, Landa Labs is the science innovation and incubation center of the Landa Group. It has a staff of about 200 people, including chemists, physicists, materials scientists and engineers, most with advanced degrees. Collaborating with market-leading companies in the fields in which it operates, Landa Labs is entirely self-funded, operating without government loans or grants.

Landa Labs focuses on nanotechnology, specifically nano-materials, aiming to create “Big Things from Small Particles”. Its innovations target large markets which can be disrupted by nanotechnology, including:

Nano organic pigments
  • Landa NanoInk® (employed in Landa Digital Printing presses)
  • Colorants for graphic arts
  • Color filters for flat panel displays
  • Coatings, including automotive paints
  • Cosmetics and hair color
Nano inorganics
  • UV and IR absorbers
  • Composite materials
  • Fire retardants
Nano drug delivery
  • Targeted pharmaceutical solutions
  • Trans-dermal and injectable medications
  • Respiratory nano-aerosols
  • Agrochemicals
Nano metallics
  • Metallization graphics
  • Solar cells
  • Printed electronics
Alternative energy
  • Thermal energy conversion
  • Solar energy

Landa Labs operates as a science innovation and incubation center, developing technologies to the proof-of-concept phase and then spinning them out as independent businesses.

Landa Labs has thus far spun out several of its businesses, including Landa Digital Printing which offers Nanographic Printing® Presses to the packaging, commercial printing and publishing markets. Unveiled in 2012, the Nanography® technology holds the promise of high speed, high quality, large format digital printing at the lowest cost per page in the digital printing industry. The Nanography® technology employs Landa NanoInk® colorants, which are water-based and eco-friendly, produce images that are half the thickness of conventional printing inks, yet offer a much broader color gamut. In June, 2014, Landa was joined by ALTANA, a privately held, global specialty chemical group based in Germany, which made an equity investment of €100M in Landa Digital Printing.
